Freshwater fishing at Eg river
We will take you to one of the most beautiful rivers of Mongolia which is called among local people “Mongolia Swiss”. The Eg River (Mongolian: Aegin Gol, Egiin gol) is a river in the Khuvsgul and Bulgan aimags in northern Mongolia, which starts from lake Khuvsgul and go to Baikal in Russia. This river is considered as a home of Taimen – the ultimate mega-trout. They are the largest member of the salmonid family. Mongolian taimen can live for nearly fifty years and reach 1.5 meter in length. Taimen caught on the fly generally measure between 0.75 up to 1 meter. In terms of road conditions, Eg river is the best area for your road trip to catch taimen.
Every angler definitely has a chance to catch a trophy fish. However, taimen fishing is not easy. These fish are big, old and smart. And perhaps, the world’s most incredible dry fly experience. Every taimen you encounter – whether you miss it or land it – will create a lasting memory.

Tour Details
Offered price is for 1-2 persons and valid from the 20th of August until 30th of October.
Local tour guide service is available upon request for $120 per day incl. his/her food and accommodation. Our guide is able to navigate, share his/her own fishing experience in Mongolia and cook delicious breakfast, lunch or dinner for you.
Please note USD$500 security deposit is required for the car hire service.

Returns to one of the SIXT rent a car stations at the Ulaanbaatar Airport or the International Pickup Service within Ulaanbaatar available upon request.
Rental duration
Minimum 6 days. Extension is available upon request.
Meals except two times breakfast at Kempinski Khan Palace and any consumables like water, food, beverage, fuel items except 4x 500ml gas bottles.
The Camping Set should be returned clean, otherwise a USD$30 fee applies. USD$100 security deposit.
Itinerary
Day 1.
Before you leave the city, go for shopping and get your gear ready. Leave Ulaanbaatar at 9 am and drive to Amarbayasgalant monastery, one of the three largest Buddhist monastic centers in Mongolia. Estimated arrival time: 2 pm. The monastery complex is located in the Iven Valley near the Selenge River in northern Mongolia. Afterwards, drive to the nearest town, Erdenet, which is about 60 km to the southwest and stay overnight.
Day 2.
Leave Erdenet at 8 am and drive 6 hrs to Eg river area, around 350 km away. Estimated arrival time: 2 pm. Set the tent and start fishing.
Day 3.
Stay at the same spot and enjoy your fishing.
Day 4.
Change your fishing spot and drive 10 km further along the river. Optional come back to the previous spot or sleep with the tent.
Day 5.
Explore other spots for fishing. Eat lunch, pack and start driving back to Erdenet at 3 pm. Estimated arrival time: 9 pm. Stay in the city overnight.
Day 6.
Leave Erdenet at 9 am and drive to Ulaanbaatar. Estimated arrival time: 3 pm. Have a lunch and make guided city tour.
