Khan Bayanzurkh Khairkhan is a sacred mountain located in Dornogovi province, 17km to the northwest of Khamariin Khiid Monastery and 21km to the south of Sainshand town. It is also called Wishing Black Mountain by the locals because they believe if you climb to the top and whisper your wishes the mountain will grant your wishes. And the root of that belief is seeded by a legend about one of the Gobi Noyon Khutagt, a title of an eminent line of tulkus of the Nyingmapa lineage of Tibetan Buddhism in Mongolia, who died and came back but found out his body was mummified so his spirit decided to occupy the mountain where his body was buried. Nowadays, people visit the sacred mountain all around the year to make wishes, however, only the men are allowed to climb to the top where there is a cairn. As for women and children or the elders who cannot go all the way up, there is a small temple about 100m from the bottom of the mountain which they can go inside to pray and make wishes. Also, the surrounding area is a part of an ibex habitat but they rarely make appearance near the mountain so if you see one it is often considered as a good omen.
